This can be an inconvenience or a security risk depending which side of the door you are on. There are minimal adjustments that can be made to allow the lock to return to proper operation, but this depends on the age of the lock and the issue at hand. In most cases your best option is the replacement of the lock to avoid any issues in the future. New locks don't always mean new keys either. Certain styles of locks can be re-keyed to match the original key so there is no need to hand out any additional keys.
